A Child of God
A Child of God
A Journey of Music, Madness, and Redemption.
On a road trip with his estranged son, a frustrated music teacher's world is rocked when he picks up a delusional, almost-famous hitchhiker, who believes he's en route to Woodstock '69.
Charlie Bender, a former rock guitarist whose dreams of stardom faded long ago, sets out in his vintage VW bus on a cross-country road trip with his estranged son, Blake. Hoping to reconnect before Blake begins a corporate career arranged by his mother, Charlie sees the journey as one last chance to bridge the growing distance between them.
Their plans change when they pick up Tommy Joy, a charismatic 67-year-old hitchhiker who believes he is on his way to Woodstock in the summer of 1969. As Charlie and Blake travel with Tommy, they discover he is trapped in the past, unable to accept the decades that have passed since his older brother was killed in Vietnam.
Determined to help, Charlie takes Tommy to find Lisa, the woman he loved as a young man. In a small town preparing for its annual festival, old friendships are rekindled, music fills the air, and Tommy briefly rediscovers the joy and freedom he has spent a lifetime chasing. But as his condition worsens, a devastating diagnosis forces everyone to confront the realities of memory, loss, and mortality.
By the journey’s end, Tommy’s final act leaves an indelible mark on Charlie and Blake, inspiring them to embrace life, reconcile the past, and find hope in the connections that endure long after the music fades.
